Fraxel laser treatments in San Mateo at Allura Skin and Laser Center give our San Francisco Bay Area clients a unique, non-invasive laser therapy designed to improve skin texture and tone. This laser penetrates deep within the skin for maximum rejuvenation, stimulating the production of new firm tissue to smooth out imperfections. The patented “fractional” technology enables this to occur while still promoting rapid healing and patient safety. The result is gradual, natural, more youthful appearance of the skin achieved with little downtime.
Our dedication to excellent skin care and rejuvenation is the foundation of our practice. If you’re considering laser skin treatments and want to learn more, request an appointment online or call our office at (650) 727-6008 and a member of our team will help schedule an appointment.
Fraxel treatments, typically used on the neck, chest and hands, provide a variety of benefits, including:
- Improving skin texture and tone
- Smoothing away fine lines around the eyes and mouth
- Reducing the appearance of acne scars
- Softening sun spots, age spots, and uneven pigmentation
Depending on your desired results and downtime, IPL treatments may be an alternative to Fraxel. If you’re generally happy with your skin and would like to make sure it stays smooth and radiant, you may want to consider our Clear + Brilliant® laser treatment instead.
During the Treatment
A topical numbing cream is applied for 45 minutes prior to the treatment. On occasion, an anesthetic nerve block can be provided if needed. During the treatment, patients experience a prickling sensation, and afterwards, the skin feels warm and sensitive similar to a sunburn for an hour or 2. The skin will look red and swollen for the first day or 2, and swelling can sometimes last up to a week. Makeup may be applied right away to cover the redness, and icing the area will reduce swelling.
After the Treatment
A bronze-tinged color develops and lasts for several days. It will likely flake and exfoliate for a week as the old skin sloughs off and the new skin regenerates. The new skin is sensitive, and gentle skin care is recommended for 2 weeks after the treatment. Adequate sun protection with a broad-spectrum sunscreen for a month is also recommended. On occasion, patients may experience some pimple breakouts for a few weeks and may require medication that we can provide.
Results are progressive and gradual. Improvement is usually noticeable by 2 to 3 months, but continues to build for up to a year after the last treatment. Treatment plans vary from patient to patient. We generally recommend a series of 4 to 5 treatments for most patients, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Each session targets a certain percentage of the skin’s surface, and by the end of the treatment plan, the entire area will have been covered.
